Control questions about exhaust

What does an exhaust in good condition look like, and what are the signs of a fault?

1. What can be signs of a defective exhaust?

   Unusual noise, black smoke, or the exhaust being loose and having visible rust damage.

   A defective exhaust can be noisy, smoke or hang loose. It is completely normal for the exhaust to be hot after driving.

   How to show it on the car:

   1. Start the engine and listen for roaring or rattling sounds.
   2. Look under the rear and check that the exhaust is secure and not rusted through.

2. How do you check that the exhaust is in good condition?

   It must be firmly attached, and when you drive the car, no black smoke may come out of it.

   The exhaust must be secure and sealed so exhaust gas doesn't leak out under the car. Black smoke can point to problems with the engine or fuel system.

   How to show it on the car:

   1. Look under the rear and check that the exhaust is held firmly by its hangers.
   2. Start the engine, look for black smoke and listen for leaks.
